Cisternino

Cisternino

This beautiful town lies in the middle of the Itria Valley. Its old town ranks as one of the most charming among the 100 small municipalities in Italy.
Tiny whitewashed houses, narrow streets and alleys adorned with geraniums, little friezes and stairs enliven the historic nucleus of the town. Cisternino was revived in the Middle Ages with the arrival of Basilian monks from the East.
At the entrance of the old town lies the quadrangular Norman-Swebian tower, from which one can see the cylindrical Amati and Capece’s towers of the medieval period.
